Construction firms cease trading in “another blow” for Jersey

Must read

Three construction firms in Jersey have ceased trading, the BBC understands.

According to an automated email response from building firm Kalmac, Kalmac Ltd, Mac Energy Ltd and Eden Interiors Ltd all ceased trading on Monday.

According to its website, Kalmac had been operating for more than 40 years.

The Jersey Chamber of Commerce said it was “saddened” by the decision which was “another blow” for the island’s construction industry.

It comes after the collapse of Camerons Ltd and JP Mauger in 2023.

The chamber of commerce said: “Our thoughts are with all those individuals and organisations impacted by the decision.”

“Trading conditions remain stressed, and order books for the sector remain low,” it said, calling the collapse “not surprising”.

It said Jersey’s construction industry remains well-supported with good local organisations, professionals and tradespeople.

The company has asked for inquiries to be directed to Jersey’s Viscount.

Kalmac has been approached for further information.

The chamber of commerce said it had called on the government to speed up its construction projects to help builders in the island.

The government has been asked for a response.
