Following a less-than-stellar beta period, Firewalk Studios’ launch of its new intergalactic shooter, Concord, has been even more disappointing after registering a concerningly low player count upon release.

According to SteamDB, Concord currently has a peak player count of 622—a worryingly low number, especially when compared to Tactical Breach Wizards, a single-player, turn-based indie game that launched on the same day and has already reached a high of 3,414 players as of writing. Although hopes were already low for most fans after its disappointing open beta numbers, player concerns are starting to mount even more, as some didn’t expect it to be “this low.”

The game’s disappointing launch also comes after Firewalk Studios’ lead character designer, Jon Wesinewski, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Concord had “been in development for around 8 years.” Along with its premium $40 price tag, this puts even more pressure on the co-op shoot ’em up to perform well; its prolonged production timeline means a significant time and, likely, monetary investment from Sony, which undoubtedly warrants a better performance from the new shooter.

Of course, it’s still early days, so Concord could eventually enjoy a boost over the next few weeks. It’s also worth noting that this only represents the PC player base of the game, whereas its presence on PlayStation remains unaccounted for. For now, though, only time will tell if it can push through its early woes or end up being swallowed whole by the overly saturated live-service FPS genre.
