Clarkson’s pub price list revealed: Pie and mash or Lancashire hotpot will set you back £19 (but the beer is surprisingly reasonable)

Must read

The price list for Jeremy Clarkson‘s new pub has been revealed, with main courses such as Lancashire hotpot and pie and mash costing a pricy £19.

Clarkson, 64, opened The Farmer’s Dog in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire, to the public at midday on Friday.

The price of a pint of beer has also been revealed, although the respectable cost might come as a shock to fans of Clarkson’s Farm due to the comparably high fee for a main course.

Hawkstone IPA, Hawkstone Premium, Hawkstone Hedgerow Cider, and Hawkstone Cider all come in at £6 a pint, a half-pint will set punters back £3.10.

Hawkstone Session Lager comes in at the fractionally cheaper cost of £5.50 per pint, which is the same price for a Hawkstone Pils, Hawkstone Breeze, and cask ale – halves of which are £2.90.

The pub also sells cans of alcohol-free Hawkstone Spa lager for £3.10.

Along with pie and mash and hotpot, other main courses include gammon steak, sausages and mash, as well as a vegetable and cheddar crumble.

Smaller plates include chicken liver pâté, ham with piccalilli and a poached egg with garlic mushrooms.

Bar snacks – consisting of a soup of the day, sausage rolls or pickled eggs – might take your fancy if you are looking for a lighter bite to eat.

The dessert menu is comprised of apple crumble, a cheesecake of the day, and strawberry meringue.

Customers can also tuck into a carvery on weekends – which is open between 12pm and 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The lunch menu is served on weekdays from midday until 2:30pm, while dinner service runs between 5:30pm and 9:30pm.

Other produce from Diddly Squat Farm is also available to purchase, with Clarkson’s Hot Seed Beer Mustard priced at £6.

Meanwhile, his interestingly-titled ‘B*****s candle’ is priced at £22 for one or you can buy two for £39.

A black and white tin mug bearing the name of Diddly Squat cost £14 while a jar of honey – or Bee juice as Clarkson calls it – was on sale for £12.

Loaves on sourdough bread retailed at £5.95 with a small loaf costing £3.95. There were even day old loafs of bread on sale at half the usual price.

Clarkson has insisted only British produce will be served at his pub, but ‘doubted’ that his new British-only venture would be profitable.

‘I’m not very good at business plans and I haven’t done one,’ he said.

‘I do know this. If I take one of our pigs and we slaughter it and butcher it and we turn it into sausages and we sell it here, it costs us 74p.

‘If I buy imported pig meat it is 18p. So, something is wrong with the food system in this country.’
