A Child Rescue Alert has been stood down after a missing five-month-old was located safe and well.
The alert had been issued after a car was hijacked in Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1, at lunchtime on Monday.
The five-month-old had been in the car at the time. The car was hijacked by a man who is not known to the child or her family.
Gardaí were able to successfully return the baby to the distraught mother within a short period after issuing an emergency alert for the stolen car across all media and social media platforms.
Sources indicated there was no reason to believe the hijacker was aware there was a baby strapped into a child’s car-seat in the rear of the vehicle.
Gardaí have thanked the public for their assistance.
