Chelsea have made an enquiry for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
Mail Sport understands conversations have taken place between the clubs and the Blues have indicated a want to sign the Sweden international.
They know that any deal would take a club-record fee beyond the £115m they paid for Moises Caicedo.
Isak scored 25 goals last season and is one of the hottest properties in Europe. His market value is at least double the £63m Newcastle paid Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022.
In his two seasons at St James’ Park, Isak has netted 35 goals and, while his first campaign was hit by injury, he established himself as one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League last term.
Eddie Howe wants to keep stars such as Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, but the club have previously admitted on the record that every player has their price in a world of Profit and Sustainability Rules.
While there has been talk of Isak agreeing a new contract at Newcastle, we understand nothing has yet been signed.
Chelsea have made enquiries for a number of forwards this summer as they search for the goalscorer to take them to the next level.
They are closing on a £5m deal for Barcelona’s 18-year-old forward Marc Guiu but they want a proven finisher too for Enzo Maresca.
They have spoken to Lille regarding Canada international Jonathan David, to Aston Villa about Jhon Duran and to Hoffenheim about Maximilian Beier while Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin was further down their list. They had a £27m bid rejected for Atletico Madrid’s Samuel Omorodion too.
Chelsea also still want a winger after missing out on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise who is joining Bayern Munich.
