Former Chelsea star and coach Jody Morris has given his thoughts on the new Chelsea home shirt that has split supporters down the middle which was unveiled on Monday morning.
In a tweet posted to their official X account, the club posted a video unveiling the kit with the caption: “New season. New era. New fire. Introducing your Chelsea 24/25 home kit. #WeBurnBlue.” After that, numerous players including club captain Reece James, Cole Palmer, Sam Kerr, Millie Bright and Moises Caicedo can all be seen modelling the strip before the words ‘We Burn Blue’ appear on the screen alongside the Chelsea Lion.
The kit’s design itself has a myriad of backgrounds but clearly has the ‘fire’ theme running through it with blue being the hottest part of a flame and, according to the club, highlighting the burning passion to unite the entire club behind a shared ambition to succeed on and off the pitch while the orange trim around the sleeves and crest represents the potential and ‘vibrant energy’ of the club’s youth ranks at Cobham.
The swirling pattern of white lines across the front, back and sleeves though is said to symbolise a ‘melting pot’, with various liquids like gold and silver recognising the club’s history of winning trophies, and is a symbol of the past achievements and Chelsea’s ‘commitment to embracing the future’.
Each element of the kit was also enhanced using 4D data-driven design and computational design methods, as they claim that the technical innovation used in the process is setting new standards in designing for precision-tuned athletic performance. Nike’s Dri-FIT ADV was used to make the shirt, the standard for their performance apparel, with the company using data measured using advanced body-mapping technology to help player’s mobility, breathability and venting exactly where needed most.
However, not every supporter has embraced the new design with many already having complained about the leaks before the shirt was officially revealed and were left hoping that it’d look far better when modelled on the players that’d be playing in it throughout the season.

But as the shirt was unveiled, fans were split with some enjoying the out-there look of the ‘melting pot’ while others were quick to turn away. One such person was former Blues player and coach Jody Morris who took to social media to highlight his disappointment with the outcome.
Posting to social media platform X, he highlighted England’s loss to Spain in the 2024 European Championships final before admitting it’d been a fairly tough day. He wrote: “So England lose last night… devastated!! Then wake up to Chelsea’s new kit [two monkey-covering-eyes emojis]! Awful 24 hours.”
Chelsea have unveiled their bold new Nike home kit for the 2024/25 season, which is yet to have an official front-of-shirt sponsor – and you can get your hands on it right now.
