Chelsea discover two ‘secret’ conditions to Alexander Isak transfer

Must read

Chelsea appear to have been given a slight boost to any remaining hope of signing Alexander Isak. The 24-year-old striker has suddenly been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Newcastle United approach the Premier League’s spending rules window deadline.

On Sunday, the three-year cycle for Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) comes to an end and numerous clubs in the English top flight will be required to submit their financial records. During the 2023/24 campaign, Everton and Nottingham Forest were both found to have breached PSRs, resulting in respective point deductions.

A club will be found in breach of the PSRs if its PSR calculation over the relevant period results in a loss in excess of £105m. The Toffees were deducted six points and then a further two points, following two separate breaches, while Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were deducted four points.

So, by June 30, the Magpies must ensure they remain compliant with PSR. To test their resolve, Chelsea enquired about the possibility of signing Isak, according to widespread reports on Wednesday.

Despite this, football.london understands that the Blues are not planning a move for the Sweden international this summer. It’s believed that Chelsea know Newcastle will demand a ‘staggering fee’ for their talisman, so they’re ‘very unlikely’ to launch a bid.

In fact, football.london understands Isak could cost more than the £115m that the west Londoners paid for Moises Caicedo last summer – and, currently, that’s not feasible. However, while chances of a move are slim, the Daily Telegraph have revealed two conditions which could open the flood gates.
