A travel expert has the perfect holiday destination for anyone looking for a “cheap as chips” getaway where you can enjoy “1980s prices”.

Simon Calder was looking at different options for this summer around Europe as a guest on ITV‘s This Morning programme before he settled on Bulgaria, describing it as a beautiful location which will also not leave a deep hole in your pockets. Speaking about the Eastern European country, Simon said that it is a favourite with Britons who enjoy all-inclusive breaks.

“Bulgaria. It’s a great, great destination. Cheap as chips,” he stated. “This is an all-inclusive favourite. Great long beaches and prices which are kind of out of the 1980s.” He pointed out that the Eastern European nation is around three times cheaper than Italy but people might find the language harder to deal with.

“It’s really cheap when you get there. So whatever you want, whatever you’d be spending in Italy for instance, you just divide it by three and that’s what you’d pay in Bulgaria,” he continued. “You’ve got to master the Cyrillic alphabet though. Back to front Rs and all that but it’s a three hour flight so just do that on the plane.”

According to Muveone, a pint of domestic beer in Bulgaria will set you back around 3.00 BGN which is about £1.50. The country boasts popular destinations such as Burgas which is a city on the Black Sea Coast, The Express reports. It has some incredibly beautiful beaches and it’s just a stone’s throw from vibrant Sunny Beach – a popular spot for young Brits.

You can also visit the city’s Sea Gardens to see a huge variety of sea plants from all over the world in a garden designed by landscape artist Georgi Duhtev or head to Lake Atanasovsko to relax in its black mud pools and enjoy a natural but luxurious spa experience. Then there is the ancient seaside town of Sozopol which is just south of Burgas. It is home to the Old Town offering a taste of local history and the relaxing Kavatsite Beach. Sozopol has beautiful views of the Black Sea and tourists can also catch the boat to St Ivan Island to see monk seals and birds.
