Charles ‘did not appreciate’ Harry interview as rift ‘deepens’

King Charles “did not appreciate” Prince Harry’s televised interview with Good Morning America earlier this year – and the royal rift has probably deepened after the Duke of Sussex’s recent visit to the UK, an expert has claimed.

Back in February, while in Canada for the One Year To Go celebrations of the Invictus Games 2025, Prince Harry gave an unexpected interview to Good Morning America. During the conversation, he discussed his father’s cancer diagnosis.

Reflecting on his journey to the UK to visit his father following the announcement of his cancer diagnosis, Harry said: “I love my family. The fact I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him? I’m grateful to that.”

However, a royal expert has suggested that King Charles likely did not appreciate his son’s candid interview on Good Morning America. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Mirror that it is “probable the King did not appreciate Harry’s interview on Good Morning America, after they met in February, when he learnt of his father’s diagnosis and when he talked of family unity”.

Fitzwilliams continued: “If Harry would come to Britain privately, arranging a meeting beforehand, I am sure his father would see him.”

His remarks followed the Duke of Sussex’s brief visit to the UK last week. Prior to his flight from the States, speculation was rife about a potential meeting with his father.

However, upon his return to England earlier this month, a representative for the Duke stated: “It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Mr Fitzwilliams claimed “the depth of the rift with the Royal Family has, if anything, deepened after Harry’s recent visit.”
