The three pitch invaders who brought a halt to Saturday night’s Champions League final at Wembley have been arrested.

Security officials at the home of English football were left red-faced after the showpiece European final was halted just 30 seconds after kick-off.

The clash between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund had only just got started when three separate invaders made it onto the pitch, approaching some of the players in the process.

One appeared to take a selfie with a Jude Bellingham, who looked confused in the middle of the pitch, before continuing to run around the pitch where he was joined by two more individuals.

One appeared to outrun security and almost made it back in among the fans before being caught. Dortmund star Marcel Sabitzer, according to TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher, even intervened and helped to bring one of the pitch invaders down to the ground.

After the trouble at the Euro 2020 final, in which ticketless fans stormed gates to gain access to the stadium, this was not what the host venue would have wanted with all eyes on the showpiece of the European club season.

A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: “It is illegal to enter the field of play at Wembley Stadium, and we strongly condemn the actions of those who interrupted the UEFA Champions League Final shortly after kick-off.

“All of the individuals have now been arrested. We will support the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken.”
