Catwalkers of Barton reunion call – and a look back at shows of the past

Must read

Catwalkers of Barton were behind the region’s premier fashion shows from 1990 to 2008, raising over £26,000 for local good causes, promoting local shopping and giving hundreds of local people the opportunity to be on the area’s most famous catwalk.

Based in Barton, the Catwalkers group performed 25 choreographed fashion shows at The Baths Hall and Club 2000 in Scunthorpe, as well as at Barton Carnival, Baysgarth School, Glanford Park and Goxhill Memorial Hall. Also, its models often took part in wedding fairs around the area.

From 1994 onwards, the Catwalkers Fashion Shows were sponsored by the Scunthorpe Telegraph. Catwalkers are now having a reunion – and they would love to see anyone who was involved in the fashion shows over all those years. The reunion is being held on Sunday, June 9, at 3pm, in the upstairs room at The Old Mill in Barton upon Humber.

Catwalkers’ aims were to enhance the lives of community members by conducting fashion parades that included people of all shapes, ages and sizes. Those involved were able to learn about event management, boost their self-esteem and meet more people in their community, with all profits from the shows going to local charity groups.

Nigel Pinchbeck, of the Catwalkers, said: “We can’t wait to see everyone, look at the photos and press cuttings from that time and relive some of the fantastic memories. Check out the Facebook page at Catwalkers of Barton – The Reunion for more information and memories, including video clips from many of the shows.”

If you were involved with the shows in any way, and would like to come along, please let the Catwalkers know by emailing catwalkers@btinternet.com. For more information, call Nigel Pinchbeck on 07718 583546.
