Carpetright rescue deal to save 300 jobs

Must read

The flooring retailer Tapi has struck a multimillion-pound deal to rescue the Carpetright brand and a number of stores from its collapsed rival’s administrators.

Tapi is to buy the Carpetright brand, intellectual property, 54 stores and two warehouses, in a pre-pack administration deal that will complete today and save over 300 jobs.

The deal does not include Carpetright’s head office in Purfleet, Essex, or 200 other stores, resulting in around 1,000 job losses.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers had been seeking a buyer for Carpetright, which trades from 272 stores, after it filed a notice of intention to appoint the “big four’ auditor as an administrator earlier this month.

Tapi is understood to be the only company to have made an offer that involved rescuing both jobs and stores.
