Carol Vorderman has announced she stepped down from her LBC radio show after suffering from burnout.
The Countdown star, 63, said working seven-day weeks ‘for as long as I can remember’ resulted in her being hospitalised overnight.
After scans revealed she had no underlying issues, Carol said she took the health scare as a ‘warning sign’ to slow down.
The broadcaster has now cut back her working hours to just weekdays after a ‘proper talking to’ from her friends and family.
This means she has quit her LBC show – which is on Sundays – a decision which she said had ‘pained’ her.
Announcing her departure on Instagram, Carol said: ‘After working 7-day weeks for as long as I can remember, I finally burned out just over 2 weeks ago and I ended up overnight in hospital.
‘Luckily, after many scans and checks, we know that I don’t have any underlying health issues whatsoever.
‘So, after a proper talking to from my family and my buddies, I’ve taken the health scare as a warning sign to slow down slightly and have decided to cut my work back to weekdays for now.
‘It pains me to have to do it, but I’ve decided not to carry on with my Sunday show on @LBC.’
Carol explained she was ‘fed up’ but the decision as the show had been ‘really lively and a total joy’ with a growing number of listeners.
However, she teased that it wasn’t the end of her career at LBC, adding: ‘The good news is that I’ll still be part of the LBC family (they’re a good family) from time to time – so stand by for more details.
‘Meanwhile, I’ll continue to cause trouble and carry on tuning into LBC too.
‘Thank you once again for your extraordinary support and to all my new friends at LBC – you’ve been amazing.
‘I’ll be continuing to make a lot of mischief and call out corruption and wrongdoing – that isn’t stopping but for now an ever so slightly less frenetic chapter begins.’
Vorders joined LBC in January when she was sensationally axed from the BBC last year after the corporation introduced new social media guidelines which she felt would mean ‘losing her voice.’
She was dropped from BBC Radio Wales after slamming the ‘disgusting’ Tory government, which was then in power, and bosses ruled that she had breached the broadcaster’s rules.
In addition to her broadcasting work, Carol has increasingly turned to political activism, including criticising the previous Conservative government, and publishing her book Out Of Order: What’s Gone Wrong With Britain And One Woman’s Mission To Fix It.
Carol first shot to fame as the maths expert on Channel 4 gameshow Countdown from 1982 until 2008.
She also presented various shows for ITV including The Pride of Britain Awards and Loose Women and guest-hosted programmes such as Have I Got News For You.
On reality TV, Carol has competed on shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, I’m A Celebrity and The Great Celebrity Bake Off.
