Canadian GP promoter summoned after crazy race

Must read

The Octane Racing Group, who are the promoters of the 2024 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, have been summoned to the stewards, following a track invasion before the end of the race.

According to the stewards’ summons report, the promoter has been called to visit them following a “Spectator track invasion prior to the conclusion of the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix.”

Octane Racing Group summons is scheduled for 17:40 local time, following an emphatic race which saw Max Verstappen claim a stunning victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

With spectator and driver safety being essential for the FIA, track invasions are a delicate topic.

Previous incidents

Track invasions have been a topic for debate recently following the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, which saw fans invade the Albert Park Circuit whilst cars were still running.

Some fans even reached the stricken Haas of Nico Hulkenberg, which resulted in the traditional track invasion in Melbourne being banned for this season’s event earlier this year.

A similar incident happened after Verstappen won the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix, where some fans climbed fences whilst the track was still live.

Keeping fans away from the circuit whilst it is live is a promoter essential, making the stewards’ investigation into the matter in Montreal unsurprising.
