A British yachtsman has been found dead with a head wound off the Greek island of Spetses while taking part in a major sailing event.
The 44-year-old man was found by locals unconscious, in shallow waters, near an old port, early on Friday, coastguard officials told The Times.
He was part of a British team of yachtsmen taking part in the three-day Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta that began on Wednesday.
A senior spokesman for the Greek coastguard said: “His head was fractured and he was taken to a local clinic on the island where he was found to be dead.”
The man’s body has been taken for a post-mortem examination in the port city of Piraeus.
