A British tourist has been found dead in a hostel in Bali after begging staff to let him change rooms the night before.

The 32-year-old reportedly told friends he was feeling sick before retreating to his room at a hostel in the Badung Regency in Indonesia.

After pleading with staff he had agreed to let them change rooms in the morning, but after he failed to emerge after midday staff soon became suspicious.

A cleaner eventually found the tourist’s body when she checked in on his room at 12.30pm on Friday, and reported the incident to hotel staff who notified police.

‘The witness tried to clean the room because the victim had actually wanted to move rooms. It was his own request the day before,’ a police spokesperson said.

‘The witness knocked on the room wall several times but there was no response.’

‘Suspecting something unwanted had happened in the room, she tried to open the curtain and was shocked to see the victim lying face down.’

No further details about the victim have been released, but he is believed to be a British tourist on holiday in Indonesia with a group of friends.

Officials have said there were no signs of violence upon discovering his body. A post-mortem examination is now underway to determine the cause of death.
