A British teenager with a peanut allergy has died after going into anaphylactic shock while on holiday with her family in Rome, Italian media reported.
The 14-year-old is understood to have been eating a dessert which had traces of nuts within dried fruit on Thursday.
She was treated by doctors, but nothing could be done to save her, La Repubblica reported.
Her family had dined at a pizzeria in the residential Gianicolense neighborhood.
It was around 15 minutes after leaving the girl felt sick and collapsed in the hotel.
She was rushed to San Camillo hospital a few miles away, but it was all too late.
Her father is said to have been so shocked by the events that he was hospitalised himself with heart problems.
It is not yet clear whether the girl or her parents had informed the waiters about her allergy.
Italian police have opened an investigation into what happened and have since interviewed the staff at the restaurant.
