Body of man found at shopping centre car park

The body of a man in his 70s was discovered at Sutton Coldfield shopping centre early in the morning. The discovery was made after emergency services were called to the Gracechurch Shopping Centre’s car park off Brassington Avenue in the town centre on Tuesday (July 9) morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they had been called to a ‘medical emergency’ at the site. A spokesman said; “We were called to reports of a medical emergency at Gracechurch Shopping Centre at 6.25am, two ambulances attended the scene.




“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

While West Midlands Police said they had been alerted to the man at the car park 10 minutes before at 6.15am. A spokesman for the force said: “We were called to a car park in Brassington Avenue, Sutton Coldfield, just after 6.15am, after the body of a man was found.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

An eyewitness told BirminghamLive: “I just passed the entrance to the Mall car park just before 10.30am. It’s all taped off with a couple of policemen at the bottom of the ramp.”

But another eyewitness attended the car park around midday and the police cordon had been lifted with cars going in and out of the car park again.
