BLACK PANTHER star Connie Chiume has died at the age of 72, her family announced.
The multi-award-winning South African actress tragically died at a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Chiume’s son Nongelo told Newzroom Afrika that his mum was admitted for a “medial procedure” before her death.
Chiume starred in numerous South African TV shows like Rhythm City, Zone 14 and Gomora.
In the 2018 Black Panther film, Chiume played Zawavari – a member of the Wakandan Tribal Council.
In the film’s sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, her character became Wakanda’s Elder Statesman.
The family have asked for privacy at this time and said that further details would follow later.
In 2022, Chiume told the MacG Podcast that she’d like for people to remember her the way they choose to.
The iconic actress said: “I have impacted each and every person in a different way. Whatever way I have impacted you, remember me that way.”
Tributes have flooded in on social media with fans expressing their sadness of her passing.
The South African government posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume.
“Her outstanding work will always be remembered.”
Chiume was born in Welkom, Free State province, to a Malawian father and Zulu mother.
She reportedly trained as a nurse but ended up being a teacher before becoming a famous actress.
The star sadly leaves behind two sons and two daughters.
