Birmingham Airport has resumed operations after police were called to reports of a suspicious vehicle, an airport spokesperson said.
The vehicle was deemed safe following a search by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, West Midlands Police said.
In a statement, an airport spokesperson said that “some passengers were evacuated and we had to suspend departing flights for a couple of hours” following a police investigation.
“That investigation has now concluded and operations will slowly be returning to normal,” the spokesperson said.
“All passengers are advised to check latest flight information from their airline,” it added.
British police and Birmingham Airport had earlier said that the airport cancelled flights, evacuated some passengers and asked passengers not to turn up after a report of a suspicious vehicle.
In a post on X, West Midlands Police said it was dealing with an “incident on-site”, adding that airport operations were impacted.
According to local newspaper Birmingham Live, passengers were not allowed off planes, drivers were being turned away from the site and all transport links to the airport were cancelled.
