Billie Eilish Vows to Stay Silent on Sexuality

Must read

Billie Eilish plans to keep quiet about her sexuality after her candid comments about her personal life blew up headlines earlier this year.

In a new cover story for Vogue published on Tuesday, the “What Was I Made For” singer said she regrets being so frank in previous interviews and vowed not to make that mistake again.

“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” she told the magazine.

“And I hope that they never will again,” the 22-year-old Grammy-winner added. “And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”

Eilish’s sexuality became a hot topic last year after she was put on the spot about her orientation during a red carpet interview with Variety last December.

After revealing that she’s attracted to women in a November article with the outlet, a reporter asked if she’d meant to come out.

“No I didn’t,” the “Ocean Eyes” singer explained. “But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’”

Frustrated, the star called out Variety on social media one day later.

“Thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters,” she wrote on Instagram. “i like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream ‘what was i made for.’”

Eilish again addressed the Variety controversy in an April interview with Rolling Stone, but her comments about being pressured to address her sexuality ended up being overshadowed by her more provocative quotes.

While she told Rolling Stone she “was never planning on talking about my sexuality ever, in a million years” and was upset she wasn’t allowed to “control” her own story, she was also exceedingly explicit about her attractions.

“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” the singer said. She said sex was her “favorite topic.”

She told Vogue in the Tuesday feature that she now realizes how her honesty may have backfired.

“I guess I also underestimate that things I say will be blown up into the biggest news of the whole world,” she said.
