A big name shop has closed in Huddersfield’s Piazza Shopping Centre.
As part of a number of UK closures, WH Smith left their premises earlier this month after the lease at the unit came to an end. A spokesperson for WH Smith said: “It is no longer sustainable to continue to trade from this location and the decision has been taken to close the store as a result of the forthcoming lease expiry.
“We are disappointed to be losing our presence in this location and we would like to thank all our customers for their support and for shopping with us. We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our in-store colleagues who we will support with this transition and redeploy to nearby stores, where possible.”

Elsewhere in Huddersfield town centre, we recently reported another store will soon shut. In the windows of household shop Freddie’s, you’ll currently see ‘end of lease, closing down’ in big letters.
The closure will be another for New Street. Walking from the start and end of the pedestrianised section of New Street, from the former Wilko unit to B&M, on Friday, May 17, we saw 10 vacant shop units. Many with signs with ‘to let’ in their windows.
As ever we’ll keep you posted with the latest shop openings and closures in Huddersfield.
