Ryan has become the first housemate to be eliminated from the Big Brother house breaking a long-running curse.

Female contestants have been the first to be booted from the ITV2 reality show for the past 13 years. They have also been the first to be given the boot a staggering 20 times out of 21 civilian series.

As a man, marketing professional Ryan’s departure from the 2024 series has finally put an end to the curse that has been plaguing the reality TV show.

The 28-year-old from Blackpool was up for the public vote alongside barber Dean, former royal butler Nathan and dental nurse Rosie.

After leaving the house, Ryan said he was ‘gutted’ to be departing the show first – but consoled himself by saying someone had to be first to leave.

The launch episode of the show saw 16 contestants divided into two groups, with five housemates in the main house and 11 others placed in ‘storage’ where they were at risk of facing the first eviction.

After the conclusion of a challenge on Tuesday’s episode, winner Daze decided to save Emma and Lily, leaving Ryan, Dean, Nathan and Rosie facing an end to their time on the show.

It has been a whirlwind week for the Big Brother housemates packed with dramatic moments.

Yesterday, Sarah, 27, burst into tears in the Diary Room after she accidentally ate a salami sandwich as a vegetarian.

‘I didn’t even taste anything but then I opened the second one and there was f*****g salami in it. I’m not even that upset about eating it I’m just more embarrassed,’ she said through sobs.

‘I feel like when people watch this they’re going to think like “Oh she ate a f*****g meat sandwich and she couldn’t even tell”.’

Viewers took to X after watching the breakdown to acknowledge that it was an unfortunate situation but praised Sarah for helping the series return to its heyday.

In reference to Big Brother’s run on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2010, Mary said: ‘I think Sarah is slightly annoying but her meltdown in the diary room over the meat sandwich was INCREDIBLY Channel 4 era coded.’

Teened Tomatoes commented: ‘I feel bad for Sarah but my god – this woman’s breakdowns are going to be iconic.’

Earlier this week, Big Brother viewers also praised Lily, 20, for revealing the reason she signed up for the ITV show was to enact revenge on her ex-boyfriend.

Duing a conversation in the bedroom, she explained: ‘The reason why I went on the show is because this is his favourite show.’

Lily then outlined what happened when she found out that her boyfriend had been cheating on her, explaining: ‘So I found out that he was dating me and another girl at the same time. I thought, go on his favourite show.’

‘That is so iconic mate, honestly,’ Martha reacted.

‘Lily coming into Big Brother because it’s her cheating ex’s favourite show? OH WHAT A QUEEN ! #BBUK, said @camruined on X.

‘Lily getting revenge on her ex boyfriend by applying and successfully getting on his favourite show so he has to see her every day 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Hilarious,’ @bigdtalkin remarked.

Big Brother continues on Sunday at 9pm from ITV2 and ITVX.
