Big Brother 2024 has revealed the first twist of the series, which left the housemates mysteriously divided.

This year’s Big Brother started with a bang tonight (October 6), as viewers were introduced to the latest line-up. But alongside the excitement of the newly refurbished house, there was another trick up Big Brother’s sleeve.

The housemates were ordered to choose either the red or the blue side, which were divided by velvet ropes. They were then tasked with persuading the new arrivals to join their side.

As each new contestant entered the house, they were immediately told to pick a side, with no further explanation. But before the twelfth contestant entered the building, the housemates were told about a rule change.

“Whichever side the next person joins can also steal another housemate to their side,” Big Brother informed them.

HR Consultant Hanah joined the red side without hesitation, and quickly chose to steal Rosie from the blue team. The reds continued to pull ahead, ending with a final headcount of eleven housemates to the blue team’s meagre five.

The red side included: Emma, Nathan, Daze, Martha, Lily, Thomas, Hanah, Rosie, Sarah, Marcello, Dean. Meanwhile, standing on the blue side were: Segun, Khaled, Ali, Ryan, Izaaz.

However, true to the show’s nature, there was a shocking twist. “In the Big Brother house, decisions have BIG consequences,” the housemates were told. “And this is no exception.”

The contestants were told that those on one side of the divide would be classed as ‘housemates’, whilst the other side would be ‘non-housemates’.

“Non-housemates do not live in the Big Brother house. Instead you will be sent to storage,” they were told, being shown clips of the dingy storage room.

It was revealed that those on the red side were the ‘non-housemates’, who “will be shelved in storage until further notice”.

“All non-housemates WILL face the first eviction,” Big Brother concluded.

Big Brother airs on ITV2 and ITVX from Sunday to Friday, followed each night by Big Brother: Late & Live.
