French and Austrian Alpine towns may be the most popular for Britons heading to the slopes, yet prices are getting rapidly steeper.
In a sign of how expensive skiing there has become, no resort from either country features in the top ten of a list of the best value ski areas.
Instead Italian resorts dominate, with six in the top ten, including Bardonecchia in pole position out of the 36 resorts surveyed.
The Bulgarian towns of Borovets and Bansko take second and third. Baqueira Beret, in Spain, ranks eighth and Norefjell in Norway is ninth.
