Golf tips

Hideki hitting form

It has already been an impressive season for Hideki Matsuyama, who has a PGA Tour title to his name and no fewer than five other top-15 finishes.

His victory came at the Genesis Invitational in February and since then he has not finished outside the top 40 in any of his seven events on the Tour.

Last week saw the Japanese star claim sixth at the US Open, which included a second-round 66 at the brutal Pinehurst.

Matsuyama finished T8 at the Memorial Tournament the previous week and currently sits eighth in the FedEx Cup standings.

The 32-year-old also enjoyed a good run in the Travelers Championship last year, finishing in a tie for 13th after rounds of 69-64-65-66.

Conners on course to break PGA duck

It has been over a year since Corey Conners last won on Tour, but his recent performances suggest another W is not far away.

The Canadian has recorded two top 10s and a top-20 finish in his last three tournaments and hasn’t missed a cut all year.

Connors carded a final-round 70 in last week’s US Open to finish T9, which is his best finish in that Major, in which he missed the cut in the last four editions.

The 32-year-old is eighth in Tee-to-Green stats and sixth for Greens in Regulation Percentage, so a good week with the putter should see him contend in Connecticut.

Connors fired four sub-70 rounds in this event last year, finishing T9 on -17, six shots behind winner Keegan Bradley.

Meronk edging Cleeks to LIV title

After his surprise move to LIV, Adrian Meronk looks to be finding his feet amongst some of the biggest names in golf.

The Pole has missed the cut at all three Majors this year, but his performances on the LIV Tour have been impressively consistent.

After a frustrating start at LIV Mayakoba, Meronk has finished outside the top 15 on only one occasion – a T26 spot in Adelaide.

The four-time DP World tournament winner was close to breaking his duck on LIV last time out, when finishing second to Carlos Ortiz in Houston.

This week’s tournament is a new event on the Tour and Meronk looks well set to challenge again at the top of the leaderboard. He returns to the State where he spent time at college, having attended East Tennessee State University.
