‘Best form of dosage’ for apple cider vinegar boosts its efficacy for weight loss

Must read

Dieticians around the world have touted apple cider vinegar as a superfood thanks to its antioxidant effects.

In recent years, the superfood has gained recognition as a weight loss tool thanks to its satiating effect.

To enjoy the condiment’s slimming effects, experts believe the timing of doses may be essential.

Sarah Herrington, MS, CNC, CPT, Nutritionist for Brio-Medical, says “apple cider vinegar does not have a ‘fat burning effect’, but argues that its mitigating effect on blood sugar may support weight loss.

“One advantageous use it may have during a fat loss regimen is its potential to mitigate the glycemic response to a high-carbohydrate meal, minimising the post-meal glucose spike,” the expert told GB News.

“This can be particularly useful for those with insulin resistance or PCOS who are attempting to lose weight.

“It may also help with the digestion of protein, an adequate intake of which is imperative when trying to lose weight.”

To boost the effects of apple cider vinegar, the expert recommends scheduling doses before meals.

“A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar prior to the highest protein or carbohydrate-rich meal is the best form of dosage,” said Herrington.

“It’s not a magic solution to fat loss nor is there any significant evidence to suggest additional mechanisms of action really beyond support glucose regulation during periods of calorie restriction.”

Ana Reisdorf, registered dietitian and founder of The Food Trends added that apple cider vinegar can help reduce overall calorie intake by enhancing satiety.

“The acetic acid in the vinegar may help suppress fat accumulation and boost metabolism,” Ana explained. “It may also help support healthy blood sugar levels.

“However, it’s important to note that most of the studies on ACV and weight loss are relatively small and it is not a miracle weight loss food.

“There isn’t conclusive scientific evidence to suggest a specific time of day.”

However, some people choose to drink it before meals to take advantage of its potential effect on lowering blood sugar and increasing feelings of fullness, the expert added.

Slimmers can take around one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, preferably mixed with water.

It can also be mixed with other fat-burning ingredients like cinnamon to boost weight loss.

Naturally, it is best to combine the condiment with a healthy diet and exercise to get sustainable weight loss results.
