BBC Sherwood viewers left feeling ‘unwell’ as character is killed off

Must read

Sherwood viewers were left in shock on Sunday evening (September 8) as the BBC drama aired a dramatic penultimate episode where one character was murdered.

All seemed well for Daphne Sparrow (Lorraine Ashbourne) after Ann (Monia Dolan) was finally arrested for murder – to the satisfaction of Harry (Michael Balogun).

“I’ve been waiting a long time to say this,” said Harry as he read Ann and Roy (Stephen Dillane) their rights before carting them away.

With the two locked up, Daphne at last came clean about her past. Sitting at the kitchen table, she told her husband Mickey (Philip Jackson) that she was a spy cop, but he had known all along.

It seemed a suprise romantic moment when Mickey shushed his wife, telling her to “save it for the long road”. But he had no idea his end was imminent.

The next morning, Daphne was at a taxi pick-up when word came that Ann had been released after Roy claimed he’d acted alone.

However, as police protection had been dropped, they had no idea of her whereabouts. Daphne raced home to warn Mickey that Ann was free, but it was all too late.

While Daphne tried to get to Mickey, Ann arrived and shot Mickey in the stomach. As he lay dying, Mickey pleaded “Just me, no others”, as he tried to save his family.

Ann had already left the house when Daphne arrived frantically looking for Mickey only to find him bleeding out on the living room floor. In a heartbreaking scene, she laid down beside him as he slipped away.

Sherwood fans were devastated by Mickey’s murder scene, with one person writing on X: “Mickey saying ‘just me’ finished me whilst that evil woman starred in his dying eyes. After their beautiful talk. I’m absolutely broken #Sherwood.”

A second stated: “I am unwell #sherwood”, while another chimed in: “B****y hell, how good was that. Lorraine Ashbourne has just delivered a masterclass in acting. In tears #Sherwood.”

“Well that was a little bit too overwhelming #sherwood”, added another.

Sherwood continues on Monday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer
