BBC directors demand answers over Huw Edwards scandal

Must read

In July last year, before Edwards was first arrested, he was suspended after The Sun reported that an unnamed BBC personality had been accused of paying a 17-year-old, and receiving explicit photos from them.

The paper reported that they had published the story after the person’s worried parents contacted the newspaper.

A number of prominent TV personalities, including other BBC presenters, were falsely accused on social media.

Edwards’s wife, the TV producer Vicky Flind, later revealed that he was the presenter in question, and said he had been admitted to hospital over mental health concerns.

Staff at the BBC, including Victoria Derbyshire, the Newsnight presenter, began looking into other internal claims against Edwards and reported that he had messaged three young employees in a way that made them uncomfortable.

BBC managers spoke to the Newsnight journalists investigating Edwards to make them aware that some staff felt uncomfortable about the questioning.
