Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is the popular BBC Two factual series that fans have taken to their hearts.

It follows two of the UK’s most beloved comedians Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse as they embark on a fishing adventure around the UK.

Now, it seems the publicly funded corporation wants to see more of the pair as a new series has been commissioned.

BBC Factual has given the green-light for an eighth series as the pair are set to share even more comedic insight and emotional experiences.

As they toured the picturesque landscapes, the iconic duo have discussed many topics from their childhood to the life-threatening medical conditions they have both bravely overcome.

The new instalment will see them explore even more of the UK’s countryside as they continue with the candid chats as they seek even more fish across the lakes, rivers and canals of the nation.

Six new episodes lasting 30 minutes will come to BBC Two and BBC iPlayer but with a new twist.

The series will also see more of a personal impact as both of the duo have chosen specific locations that are related to specific points in their personal lives.

Reacting to the news, Paul Whitehouse joked: “I can’t wait to get back to Gone Fishing with that other bloke in tow!”

Meanwhile, Bob Mortimer added: “I’m looking forward to visiting old haunts from my younger years as Paul and I will be travelling back in time for this series, going to fish in places which shaped our lives.”

Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing has proven to be a huge success for the BBC digitally as well as on linear channels.

According to TV Zone, more than a fifth of the viewers of the last series watched the programme on iPlayer.

The Christmas instalment of the factual series was also the fourth biggest factual series in the last 12 months for BBC Two.

Meanwhile, the upcoming seventh series will include locations such as Bedfordshire, North Norfolk and Northern Ireland.

For the first time, eight episodes will feature as part of the run which will come to screens later this year.
