Barry Keoghan is the latest actor to join the Peaky Blinders movie at Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

He’ll star alongside Peaky Blinders original castmember Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Ferguson in the film. Keoghan has been nominated and won awards for his recent roles in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin.

The upcoming project is based on the popular Netflix series, which sees Murphy portray Thomas Shelby, a war hero-turned-gangster who works his way up in the world of crime in 1900s Birmingham, England. While the film is described as a “continuation” of the beloved series, all other plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight wrote the script. Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the first season of the series, will helm the film. Knight will also serve as a co-producer alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley.

When the film was announced, the Oppenheimer star and Oscar winner released a statement, saying, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.… It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

Knight released his own statement at the time. “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” he said. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Harper will serve as an executive producer alongside David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason.

“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” the director said when the film was announced. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
