A child and an adult have died and three others have been rushed to hospital after a horror three car crash near a Sydney airport.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Milperra Rd and Murray Jones Drive near Bankstown Aerodrome in Sydney’s west about 7.45pm on Sunday night.

NSW Ambulance Acting Superintendent, Dylan Snape, confirmed two people – an adult and a child – died at the scene while three others were taken to hospital.

An ambulance spokesperson confirmed a man in his 50s and a primary school aged child were rushed to Westmead hospital in critical conditions.

Another man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a non-critical condition.

Acting Superintendent Snape said it was a ‘a highly emotional scene for all first responders involved’.

‘Not only NSW Ambulance but for Fire and Rescue firefighters and NSW Police, and we certainly want to recognise them for their efforts tonight,’ he said at the scene.

Pictures from the scene show the rear left passenger door of the sedan completely smashed in and a ute showing damage to it’s bonnet and bumper.

One man surrounded by paramedics was seen being put into the back of an ambulance with a brace secured around his neck.

Police were seen inspecting the demolished sedan which had been forced over the curb and onto a nature strip.

Both cars came to rest just outside of a business complex that includes a go-kart track and a badminton centre.

Police blocked traffic from entering Murray Jones Drive and diverted eastbound traffic along Milperra Road.

Tradies were also seen inspecting traffic lights at the intersection shortly after the incident while police and firefighters remained at the scene.

The crash came just hours after the pilot of a light plane had to make an emergency crash landing at Bankstown Airport after the aircraft lost all power.

The pilot, Jake Swanepoel and his partner walked away unscathed after narrowly avoiding suburban homes, airport hangars and clipping a tree before belly landing on a runway.

‘It was gliding, there was no power,’ a shaken Mr Swanepoel, who has flown for almost 30 years, told 9News.

‘We clipped the trees and just made it over the hangar.’

His partner, Karin, said they didn’t think they were going to make it to the runway.

‘It was very, very close,’ Karin said.

‘It was scary and nerve-wracking because you were thinking about all these homes that you could potentially…you know, if you don’t make the runway.’
