Larian Studios is looking for Baldur’s Gate 3 players to help stress test patch 8 and upcoming crossplay features to ensure a smooth launch. Even though Larian has confirmed that the studio has moved on to new projects, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to receive updates, with the latest one bringing in a highly requested feature.

Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to be a huge one for the title, as it has some major features, like a fully customizable Photo Mode and 12 new subclasses for all the current classes within the game. Players can now build a Death Cleric, Arcane Archer, a Drunken Master Monk, and much more. However, Patch 8 also sees the addition of Crossplay, allowing players from any platform to adventure together. However, with an undertaking such as this, Larian is asking for player help.

In a final, end of year, blog update, Larian gave fans a glimpse into what to expect, while also thanking the community for their support in helping Baldur’s Gate 3 win another award at The Game Awards 2024. Alongside a daily advent calendar fans can participate in to unlock rewards, Larian announced that the team is working on a new stress test build for Patch 8, set to go live in January.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Stress Test Date

  • January 2025 for PC, PlayStation, or Xbox players

Players on Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 can now sign up to take part in January’s test, which aims to find any possible issues or instability problems ahead of Patch 8’s launch. Larian is also hopeful that supported Baldur’s Gate 3 mods will remain free of issues, but is looking for feedback should anything happen during the test. It’s worth noting that not everyone will be admitted to the test, so registering does not guarantee access. Larian is planning to roll out invites in waves, and players can share their experience online as long as they indicate it is from the playtest version.

It’s highly likely that Patch 8 will be the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, as Larian moves on to new projects and IPs. After the immense success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the announcement left many fans disappointed who were hoping to see expansions and other DLC content to keep the momentum going.
