Avatar will keep with the elemental theme following 2022’s The Way of Water, with the third film in the series now titled Fire and Ash.

Director James Cameron and stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were on hand Friday, at the Disney D23 expo, where they revealed the title of Dec. 2025-bound blockbuster as well as shared some details about the third installment in the franchise.

While no footage from the movie was unveiled, Cameron did share some concept art for Fire and Ash, which focuses on a clan of the blue-skinned Na’vi that resides on the planet Pandora’s volcanic regions.

“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said at D23 (via Variety). “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

Much of the Avatar cast will return for the new installment, with new additions including Oona Chaplin, Michelle Yeoh, and David Thewlis. Fire and Ash was filmed back-to-back with The Way of Water, resulting in only a three-year wait between sequels; the original Avatar and The Way of Water were separated by 13 years.

Fire and Ash arrives Dec. 19, 2025. After that, two more Avatar films are currently in the works, with the fourth and fifth installments planned for Dec. 2029 and 2031.
