At least 16 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on military sites in Syria, according to Sana, the Syrian state-run news agency.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the dead included civilians and soldiers.
“Thirteen violent explosions rang out in the zone housing scientific research centres in Masyaf where pro-Iranian groups and weapons development experts are present,” the group said. Sana cited a local health official as saying 36 people had been wounded, six of whom were in serious condition.
Israel has not commented on the strikes, and rarely does, but has long stated that it would not allow Iran to expand its influence in Syria through its proxies.
