Muslim-American author Asra Nomani has warned that an extreme faction of her faith are grouping with the liberal left.

She said the trend was prevalent in new GBN America documentary, America’s Muslim City.

In the investigative piece, GBN America reporter Steven Edginton headed to Hamtramck in Detroit to learn how things have changed since it became the country’s first Muslim-led city.

Steven spoke to liberals who defended the actions of Muslims despite calls for ‘Death to America’.

Speaking on GBN America, Nomani said the Israel-Gaza conflict is creating an unholy alliance.

“The majority of our Muslim majority countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, are governed by Islamism”, she said.

“Unfortunately, they have exported that to the West and to our Muslim communities. In this documentary, you talk about Da’wah, an evangelical term to bring people to that interpretation of Islam.

“In our community, I think that a solid third of Muslims are secular, liberal Muslims, much like myself. I think another third are conservative religiously, and then another third are political.

“Unfortunately, I think that a third of the political muslims are a manifestation of the far left. They are coming together to use Israel as an excuse to wage their holy war on the world.

“That’s where the real danger lies for us. You can see it. We see it on the streets of London, Birmingham and the streets of America.

“From Detroit to Hamtramck. That explosive minority is unfortunately causing such an existential threat to our values of Western secularism and liberalism that is fundamental to a free society.”

The city elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015 and sparked fury by unanimously voting to pass legislation banning Pride flags being flown on city property last year.

The town’s former mayor, Karen Majewski, admitted she is concerned about the treatment the local LGBT+ community are subject to.

“I have been told by many that they (LGBT+ people) don’t feel safe here anymore”, she said.

“I have been told by people who used to shop here, go to businesses here, that they no longer feel safe coming here.”
