Must read

Today 7 May 2024, Art in Mayfair announces its return for a 7th
edition for a four-week celebration of art, fashion, and culture from 10 June – 7 July 2024 in London’s renowned shopping and gallery enclave. Working in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, the showcase is timed to coincide with the annual Summer Exhibition
which has been held consecutively since 1769 and this year, will also celebrate the completion of the Royal Academy Schools restoration and renewal project. Brands across the destination area from Bond Street, Savile Row, and Mayfair will team up with artists
and galleries to present pop-up installations, talks, walks, and special events.

RA Schools student Lizzie Munn has been selected to present this year’s prestigious Flag commission. This commission, now an annual highlight of Art in Mayfair, is a significant
recognition of emerging talent in the art world. Visitors will see Munn’s work entitled
‘The sun speaks’ flying above Bond Street from 10 June onwards.

Munn’s work
takes the form
of large-scale print-based installations, which are often shaped by their environment.
‘The sun speaks’ will hang across this half mile stretch of street as a continuous installation with the surrounding architecture and the elements becoming active components in the work. The installation will be sensitive
to environmental shifts, particularly the sun’s movements throughout the day. Pushing the material possibilities of the flags, Munn introduces a metallic silver fabric which is responsive to light; the shimmering surfaces becomes a receptor of information
animated by the sun. A new series of monotypes create the neon green flags which will flood Bond Street with luminous colour and demand attention in all conditions of light.

Munn is currently a student at the Royal Academy Schools and will graduate in 2024. Munn will be presenting works at the
RA
Schools Show 2024, which will be open from 14 June – 30 June 2024.

The RA Schools was formally founded on 2 January 1769 making it the longest established school of fine art in the UK. It remains free and independent to this day so that places
are still given to artists based on merit. Work on the vital restoration and renewal project for the RA Schools is due for completion in spring 2024.

Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, together with conservation specialists Julian Harrap Architects, the project will preserve the heritage of the RA Schools and create
state-of-the-art facilities in order to ensure the RA Schools’ position as one of the leading art schools in the UK.

Katie Thomas, Associate Director of Bond Street & Mayfair at New West End Company said:

“With the backing of the Royal Academy of Arts, Art in Mayfair continues to flourish and grow, becoming a catalyst for inspiring brands throughout this unique destination to
forge exceptional art collaborations, mini exhibitions, showcases, and events. Our collaboration with the gifted young artist Lizzie Munn this year has been especially fulfilling, allowing us to highlight the significance of the RA Schools as they cultivate,
nurture, and champion the next generation of artists in the Capital.”
