Arsenal defender Gabriel has named the one club he has always dreamed about playing for.

After arriving in the Premier League in 2020, the Brazilian has gone on to forge an impressive partnership with William Saliba in the heart of Mikel Arteta‘s defence.

He was ever-present as Arsenal came agonisingly close to Premier League glory in 2022-23 and was again a key component as they conceded the fewest goals en route to again narrowly missing out on the final day last season.

Amid speculation linking him to a number of Saudi Pro League clubs last summer, Gabriel ultimately opted to remain in North London, and was rewarded for his performances with talks of a new contract towards the end of the campaign.

However, despite looking set to once again play a key role as Arteta’s men look to make it third time lucky next season, Gabriel recently detailed his ambition to one day play his club football elsewhere.

Hailing from the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, Gabriel remains to this day a die-hard Corinthians supporter, and admitted he has long dreamed of one day representing the club.

‘My favourite club? Corinthians, that’s since I was born and today I don’t think it has to be any different,’ he told ESPN Brazil.

‘I still go to Corinthians games by train. It’s my dream, I want to play for Corinthians, I want to feel that energy. It’s something to think about. Sometimes I stop and think, “Do I dream of playing for Corinthians?” I do.

‘When would I play for Corinthians? For me, I’d be at Corinthians tomorrow.

‘I hope it doesn’t take me long because I want to feel the energy of those fans, who are incredible, as soon as possible.’

But the 26-year-old admitted he often dreams of pulling on the famous white shirt of his hometown club Corinthians

After beginning his career in his native Brazil, the 26-year-old spent five years with Avai, making his senior debut the year the club earned promotion to Brasileiro Serie A in 2017.

Gabriel then joined Lille, with brief loan spells at Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb before arriving at the Emirates in 2020 during Arteta’s first summer in charge of the Gunners.
