Armie Hammer Starring In New Movie The Dark Knight About Crime Fighting Vigilante

Must read

Armie Hammer will be starring in a new movie titled The Dark Knight about a crime-fighting vigilante, but has nothing to do with Batman. The award-winning actor has been the subject of controversy in recent years, having been accused of sexual misconduct in 2021, causing an LAPD investigation into the claims. In 2023, prosecutors decided not charge him with a crime. Since then, Hammer’s acting career hasn’t seen much activity, with his next movie scheduled to be Frontier Crucible, a Western directed by Travis Mills based on Harry Whittington’s 1961 novel Desert Stake-Out.

Now, Variety has confirmed Hammer’s next project, where he will be starring in The Dark Knight from director Uwe Boll (BloodRayne, First Shift). The actor will be portraying a vigilante named Sanders, whose fight against criminals makes him popular on social media. The film marks his second role after sexual misconduct allegations, and his first leading role in a movie since 2021’s Crisis. Filming on the project begins on January 27 in Croatia.

What Hammer’s Role In The Dark Knight Means For His Career

The Actor’s Vigilante Role Explained

Hammer’s most well-known works include the spy movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals, and the coming-of-age romance movie Call Me by Your Name with Timothée Chalamet. While he’s been recognized for these movies and more with awards and nominations, the assault allegations made 2022’s Death on the Nile his last movie until his most recent projects. With The Dark Knight, it seems he’s now taking on roles similar to those he held when he was in his prime.

While director Boll has had many controversies himself, mostly due to vitriolic responses to critics of his movies, he’s still managed to carve out a niche within film. This includes his recent crime drama First Shift, and his upcoming thriller, Run. While his movies still haven’t been critically successful, he’s still managed to attract stars, like Anthony Bourdain’s cameo in Far Cry. Hammer’s role in The Dark Knight seems like it will mix classic superhero ideas with modern ones like social media, intersecting the ideas in a unique story, despite the Batman-like title.

On a January episode of the podcast Your Mom’s House, hosted by Christina Pazsitzy and Tom Segura, Hammer confirmed he has been turning down roles because of how many offers he’s gotten since his sexual misconduct charges were dropped.

Hammer‘s newest role isn’t as high-profile as his previous films, but it does indicate the actor is starting to return to his career, even if it’s slow. While the title makes The Dark Knight sound derivative of Batman, the inclusion of social media in the story might differentiate it from a typical superhero story. However, with many details still under wraps, it remains to be seen how the actor’s latest role following his allegations shapes up.
