Armie Hammer is trading in his beloved truck for a “tiny” hybrid as he returns to Los Angeles to start a “new life.”
The actor took to social media to share a video from a California CarMax, in which he shared he’s been back in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks, after retreating to the Cayman Islands following his cannibalism scandal.
“This is my truck. I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself, because I’ve had pickup trucks for a long time, and I have loved this truck intensely and taken it camping and across [the] country multiple times and on long road trips,” he said. “Since being back in L.A., I have put about $400 or $500 worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore.”
Hammer continued, explaining that the truck holds a lot of memories: bringing his kids back from the hospital when they were hurt, lots of trips, etc. “Here’s to new beginnings,” he added, noting that he’s trading it in for a car that will only need like “10 bucks of gas in it a month.”
The Call Me By Your Name star moved out of the country and worked as a timeshare salesman in the Caribbean islands for a few years after he was accused of rape, cannibalism and sexual misconduct.
In a June interview, Hammer revealed that he’s “grateful” for the allegations that upended his career three years ago.
“Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it,” he said on an episode of the Painful Lessons podcast. “I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough. I never was in a place where I was happy with myself.”
