Armie Hammer has revealed his shock return to big screen acting after a cannibalism scandal imploded his once stellar Hollywood career.
The 38-year-old Call Me By Your Name star, fell from grace when a series of disturbing allegations were made against him by multiple women, who accused him of violent abuse and harboring cannibalism fantasies.
He was investigated by the LAPD in 2023 but ultimately wasn’t charged.
Hammer will take on the lead role in Uwe Boll’s vigilante thriller, The Dark Knight which is scheduled to begin principal photography in Croatia on January 27, per Variety.
In The Dark Knight – not to be confused with Christopher Nolan‘s 2008 Batman film – Hammer will play Sanders, a man who ‘takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals.’
His vigilantism transforms him into a hero in the eyes of the public and a social media star, but the local police chief views him as a danger to society and vows to apprehend him.

Boll said: ‘The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast.’
German filmmaker Boll has become a controversial figure directing panned films including Alone In The Dark – widely considered to be one of the worst films ever made – and BloodRayne.
Executive producer Michael Roesch said ‘our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.
‘With Armie Hammer in the lead role and more great actors to be announced soon, and with an outstanding script, we are excited to build up on the great response we got for First Shift and Run, and will have another strong movie soon.’
In a recent podcast interview, Hammer said his career had picked back up again and added: ‘My dance card’s getting pretty full. That first job that I turned down after four years of this s**t, I mean, it was the best feeling I’ve ever had.’
Fans quickly took to social media to comment on the casting with one writing: ‘Surprising anyone would go to see him act in a film.

Hammer also recently filmed Travis Mills’ Western Frontier Crucible.
In February 2021 Hammer’s ex-girlfriend, Effie Angelova, 26, accused him of ‘violently’ raping and abusing her in 2017. He denied the accusations of rape through his attorney and said all of his sexual encounters were ‘completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance and mutually participatory’.
Earlier this year Hammer revealed he is grateful for the shock cannibalism and abuse allegations which imploded his once-stellar Hollywood acting career.
Speaking on the Painful Lessons podcast, the actor said of the scandal: ‘Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it,
On Wednesday’s You Mama’s House podcast, Hammer, who claims he’s now living in a ‘tiny apartment’ as he works to rebuild his career, reflected on the whirlwind of the controversy and how it captivated the public during the COVID-19 lockdown
He shares two children, daughter Harper and son Ford, with his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, and they have been co-parenting since their 2020 split
‘I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me I didn’t feel good I never felt satisfied I never had enough I never was in a place where I was happy with myself where I had self-esteem.
‘I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself.’
On being accused of cannibalism – he added: ‘People called me a cannibal. Like I ate people! What???? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people!’
He added of his downfall: ‘It was an ego death, a career death. A neutron bomb went off in my life. It killed off [everything]’
His then-wife Elizabeth Chambers split from him in July 2020 – the former couple share two young children.
The star said he had contemplated suicide during that period, saying: ‘There were a lot of times when I thought I can’t take this anymore. I was getting hate…so it just went right in… there was a time
‘I was standing at the shore and I swam out really far and just laying there..a half-assed suicide attempt…But I thought I couldn’t do that to my kids.’
He admitted his Hollywood career is ‘nowhere now’ and said he’s ‘creating his own sandbox’ and planning to write a screenplay.
