Armie Hammer joked about being branded a ‘cannibal rapist’ in an odd podcast episode with his mother Dru.

The former Hollywood star, 38, was at the peak of fame when multiple woman accused him of violent abuse and harbouring cannibalism fantasies. Armie denied the claims and did not face any charges – but it was career ending.

Stepping back into the limelight, the actor made light of the horrific allegations in a bizarre episode of his new Armie HammerTime podcast – which featured his mother Dru.

Delving into the gruesome claims, Armie laughed as he recalled how ‘all of a sudden someone is like “He’s a cannibal rapist”‘.

Dru then revealed that she had called her son when the allegations came to light and asked him: ‘Are there any women out there with ribs or limbs missing?’ She said she later paid for him to get a vasectomy for his birthday to protect him from having unwanted children as a result of his infidelity.

In February 2021, Armie’s ex-girlfriend, Effie Angelova, 26, accused him of ‘violently’ raping and abusing her in 2017. He denied the accusations of rape through his attorney and said all of his sexual encounters were ‘completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance and mutually participatory’.

His then-wife Elizabeth Chambers split from him in July 2020. The former couple share two young children, Harper, nine, and Ford, seven.

Defending her son on Monday’s podcast, Dru said: ‘If there was anything at all that you did as far as a rape accusation, they would have nailed you – pardon the pun.

‘But you were completely exonerated and we know why. It certainly helps when you’re an influencer and you’ve dated Armie Hammer. I’m not stupid, I’m your mother.’

‘I want to say it was like March, or something like that, where my name was the third most searched thing on the entire planet,’ the Call Me By Your Name actor said.

‘That had never happened to me before in my career, it had never happened.’

Laughing, Armie continued: ‘Then all of a sudden someone is like ‘He’s a cannibal rapist’ and it just was like [explosion sound].’

His mother replied: ‘I even called you one time and I was like okay let me just get this straight, are there any women out there with ribs or limbs missing?

‘That’s what I want to know as a mother. Because end of conversation if there are ribs or limbs missing.

‘But let’s be honest, I think you learned not to put stupid things in DMs because no one was eaten, no one was raped. You were stupid.’

‘Oh I was definitely stupid,’ Armie added.

Dru then revealed that after the fallout, she offered to pay for her son to get a vasectomy for his birthday.

‘So let’s talk about what I gave you for your birthday this year, the church lady,’ she said. ‘So I call Armie and I say “Armie what would you like for your birthday this year?”

‘And he goes “Oh I don’t know maybe money, whatever” and I was like “I believe I’m gonna give you a vasectomy”.’

Armie continues: ‘Yep. So I go to a doctors office and I go “Yes I’m here to schedule a vasectomy” and they go “Great here’s what you need”, all this paperwork, do a consult with the doctor and he’s like “Are you sure you want to do this?”, so I say “I’ve got two beautiful kids I don’t want anymore kids I’m good to go.” They try to talk you out of it.’

He added: ‘I walk out to the receptionist and she asks “Are you going to be putting this on insurance” and I say “Oh I actually don’t have insurance” and she goes “What?” and I say “Yeah I haven’t had insurance in years” and she goes “Oh okay, are you going to be putting it on a credit card?” and I go “Oh no no my credit cards won’t cover this, my mother is going to be calling you and she’s going to be paying for it”.

‘And she was looking down and she goes “What?” and I say “Yes my mother gave me this as a birthday present”.

‘It just was one of those things like you could tell she was hearing something and is like, “I’ve never heard — what are you talking about?” So yeah my mom got me a vasectomy for my birthday.’

Earlier this year, Armie revealed he is grateful for the shock cannibalism and abuse allegations which imploded his once-stellar Hollywood acting career.

Speaking on the Painful Lessons podcast, the actor said of the scandal: ‘Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it.

‘I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me I didn’t feel good I never felt satisfied I never had enough I never was in a place where I was happy with myself where I had self-esteem.

‘I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself self-validation but I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself.’

On being accused of cannibalism  – he added: ‘People called me a cannibal. Like I ate people! What???? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people!’

He added of his downfall: ‘It was an ego death, a career death. A neutron bomb went off in my life. It killed off [everything].’
