Apple TV+ will be free to watch this weekend, from January 3 to January 5, and all you need is an Apple ID.
“Apple TV+ is ringing in the New Year by offering an all-access pass to customers all around the world,” reads the Apple blog.
The streaming service has of course had plenty of free trials for free Apple TV+ access before, but the difference here is you don’t need to enter card details and remember to cancel at the trial’s end.
We have approached Apple for further detail on the timing of the free window for UK viewers — as this is a global promotion, it will operate over a whole host of time zones. And even for the US viewers, Apple has only stated the days it will run, not exact timings.
Apple TV+ usually costs £8.99 a month, and Apple currently offers a 7-day trial for new sign-ups. And with any luck, this free weekend should not preclude you from taking the free trial later on.
The service will be accessible through all the usual platforms that can use it this weekend, including Android devices and some smart TV platforms, as well as iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TV boxes. Wondering what to try out?
What to watch on Apple TV+
The timing of this free weekend ties in with the second season of one of Apple TV+’s biggest shows, Severance. It’s a sci-fi thriller in which people’s work-time and free-time memories are split up through surgery, but there’s a dark conspiracy whirring away behind the scenes.
It was famous for reeling in many viewers who have zero interest in the game. The show has three seasons at present, its original intended arc, although there are rumours a fourth is in the works.
Slow Horses is the critics’ favourite Apple TV+ show. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of a division of MI5 where the service’s failures and misfits are sent. But despite that, they still end up on thrilling cases in each of the show’s four seasons.
Silo is among Apple TV+’s most-watched shows at present, a sci-fi series where Earth’s surface has become uninhabitable, forcing humanity’s survivors deep underground.
Rather watch movies? Apple TV+ doesn’t pump them out with the regularity of Netflix, but there are some big hitters on the service including Napoleon, Killers of the Flower Moon, Argylle and, more recently, Steve McQueen’s Blitz.
