Apple has officially discontinued three popular iPhones amid its release of the iPhone 16 at the Glowtime event on Monday.
The iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models will no longer be manufactured, leaving only refurbished units or what is in stock on the market.
Apple typically ditches older iPhones upon rolling out a flagship smartphone in September, and the latest Pros are typically in the line of fire.
But the iPhone 13 had been the last of its series left standing, the Pro models were discontinued in 2022.
The iPhone 15 model has been discontinued, making it the fastest model to be taken off the shelf in Apple’s history
The move of discontinuing iPhones lets Apple push the new iPhone 16 Pro models, which are expected to be the buzz over the next few months.
However, the iPhone 15 Pros were only released last year, making them the fastest discontinued Apple smartphone in history.
Users have posted their confusion on X, asking why Apple has discontinued the 15 Pro and Pro Max when it was just released last year.
One person claimed that Apple discontinuing the 15 Pro, Pro Max and 13 models ‘is a ploy to force you to buy the iPhone 16.’
Yet another user addressed Apple pulling the 13 model, writing: ‘I just got the 13 after waiting for years…’
Because of the high price tag attached to most iPhones, many users will wait several years to purchase the models at a reduced price.
Waiting to buy a model can also help users avoid potential issues with bugs that could arise in the newly released phones or see if it’s worth upgrading to the newest model or if they should save money by getting the previous generation.
Since the company announced it was dropping the prices at its Glowtime event on Monday, the cost associated with other models including the iPhone SE 3, 14, 14 Plus, 15 and 15 Plus have all dropped by $100.
Apple has listed the iPhone 14 at $599, the 14 Plus and 15 at $699 and the 15 Plus is being sold for $799.
This is in comparison to the new iPhone 16 which is priced at $799 up to $1,199 for the 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 will offer improvements like Apple Intelligence, an Action button, camera updates and other functions that could knock all previous models off the buyer’s radar.
