Anne Robinson has ‘given away’ £50m fortune to family in order to avoid inheritance tax

Must read

Anne Robinson has been on screens for decades and is best-known for hosting The Weakest Link from 2000 to 2012.

The broadcaster has enjoyed a successful career but has admitted she has “given away” her £50million fortune in order to avoid inheritance tax.

Robinson, 79, has reportedly shared her wealth with her daughter and grandchildren to save it from going to the taxman when she dies.

Instead of hanging onto her fortune, former Countdown star Robinson has “spread” her money about so her relatives aren’t forced to pay up in the future.

She explained: “I’ve given it all away. I don’t want the taxman to have it. I’ve spread it about quite a lot, to the children.”

Speaking to Sage magazine, she continued: “They may as well enjoy it now.”

The broadcaster has one daughter, Emma, from her first marriage to late journalist, Charles Wilson.

She also has two grandchildren, 14-year-old Hudson, and Parker, 13.

Inheritance tax is charged at 40 per cent on a person’s estate over the value of £325,000, but there are some exceptions.

Some opt to reduce the amount they need to pay by giving away some of their finances to relatives when they are still alive.

Robinson went on to tell the publication she “genuinely has no idea” if she’s worth £50m but went on to say she “doesn’t want for much”.

“I can’t think there’s anything I really want except my good health and the family happiness,” she added.

The former game show host currently lives in a converted 18th-century barn in the Cotswolds and also owns two homes in New York.

She also recently admitted to being in a relationship with the Queen’s ex-husband, Andrew Parker-Bowles.

According to Daily Mail, Robinson, who was previously married to John Penrose until their divorce in 2007, recently said of dating again: “I’d been out of the game for so long. And also I don’t drink.

“If you don’t drink you’re not as reckless are you? I’ve only just thought of that, but I think it’s probably true.”
