Angelina Jolie’s style never tends to stray far from her staple silhouettes, from understated flowy gowns on the red carpet to perfectly tailored trench coats at the airport. But make no mistake: The Oscar-winning actor is a bona fide fashion chameleon, and she can pull off almost any outfit. Just take a look at her latest.
Promoting her new biopic Maria at the London Film Festival today, Jolie epitomized effortless glamour in an all-black outfit from Dolce & Gabbana. Eschewing her typical go-to gowns or sheath dresses, the movie star looked impossibly chic in a three-piece menswear tux, consisting of a sleek single-button tuxedo jacket, a relaxed vest, and slouchy cigarette pants.
As for her shoes, the actor and director opted for heeled square-toe leather boots. She accessorized sparingly, simply opting for a pair of gold teardrop-shaped earrings, then styled her dirty blonde hair into long loose waves.
Jolie’s uncanny ability to easily pull off a menswear look may come as no surprise to fans who have long been devoted to her style, which is marked by minimalist pieces and timeless designs. But as Jolie reflected in her cover story for Harper’s Bazaar’s December 2019/January 2020 issue, she hasn’t always approached fashion that way.
“At school I wasn’t that popular person; I was a punk,” she said. “I loved leather, PVC, and fishnets. Those were my three favorite fabrics in my early 20s. I remember the first time I wore PVC pants. I was waiting for an audition, sitting in the sun in L.A. By the time it was my turn, my pants had fused together. I didn’t get the part. But I loved those pants. I wore something similar when I married Jonny [Lee Miller].”
