Andy Robertson has avoided injury after suffering a major scare with Scotland ahead of their Euro 2024 opening match against hosts Germany.

Scotland captain Robertson departed early from training on Monday morning having been attended to by national team medical staff during the session.

The Scots had only arrived at their base in Germany on Sunday evening and were undergoing their first preparations in the country before they take on the host nation in the tournament’s opening match on Friday in Munich.

But Scotland assistant boss John Carver has allayed fears over the fitness of Robertson, who will return to training in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Tuesday.

“It was a precaution really,” said Carver on Monday afternoon. “The ball just caught his ankle but he will train tomorrow, he will be fine. Obviously at this stage we are going to be extra cautious. But he is ok, he is fine, and we look forward to him joining back in tomorrow.”

The Liverpool left-back has already suffered injury problems when on international duty for his country this season. In October, he required a shoulder operation after a clash with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon that ruled him out for more than three months.
