The Time Spy test revealed that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT scored 22,894 points in graphics and was on par with the RX 7900 GRE but significantly slower than the RX 7900 XT.
Leaked 3D Mark Time Spy test shows that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT cannot beat the RTX 4070 Ti, let alone the RX 4080
The latest performance numbers for the upcoming RDNA 4-based GPU are out. While it’s a bit early to position the RX 9070 XT on the list, we at least know how the GPU will perform. It was previously rumored that the RX 9070 XT would be on par with the RTX 4080, but recent rumors said that the GPU will be faster than the RX 7900 GRE, and it looks like it’s the truth, if the leaks are correct.
The leaker @All_The_Watts posted the screenshot of the Time Spy score achieved by the RX 9070 XT. The name of the GPU is clearly revealed as “AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT” and it scored 22,894 points in the graphics test. Compared to the RX 7900 GRE, it is barely 2% faster and is noticeably slower than the RX 7900 XT, which shows a nearly 17% uplift.
Do keep in mind that this is a synthetic benchmark and the gaming performance numbers could be different, but it doesn’t seem to be competing with upper mid-range GPUs such as the RX 7900 XT and RTX 4070 Ti. The latter, even though it delivers an equivalent Time Spy score, is much faster than the RX 7900 GRE. Consider the following table to see where the RX 9070 XT stands in the mid-range and high-end current-gen GPU.
If the performance is equivalent to the RX 7900 GRE, then AMD will need to price it well below $600, possibly at $500 if it wants to offer a higher value compared to the previous-gen GPU lineup. The RX 4070 cards are already dominating the market and, thanks to their excellent Ray Tracing performance, AMD also needs to compete in the RT department with the RX 9070 XT, which is rumored to be much faster than the RX 7000 GPUs.
AMD is reportedly launching the RX 9070 XT and other RDNA 4 GPUs at CES alongside FSR 4 and Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs. At the same time, we expect NVIDIA and other hardware vendors to bring their next-gen product lineups.
