Everton’s Amadou Onana has admitted that he is hoping to use the European Championships as a platform to secure a big money move away from Goodison Park.
The midfielder joined Everton from Lille for £33.5million in 2022 but has been heavily linked with another transfer this summer as a number of Europe’s most-prominent clubs both at home and abroad covet his signature. Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are among the 22-year-old’s admirers while Manchester United, who are also targeting a move for Jarrad Branthwaite, maintain a longstanding interest in him.
Onana, whose Belgium side face Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine in the group stages of Euro 2024, told Het Laatste Nieuws: “At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for.
“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”

While Onana stressed he was respectful of his Everton contract running until 2027, he hinted at a possible move when speaking to Hamburger Abendblatt – via Sport Witness. He said: “I have the approach that everything I dream about can come true.
“I dreamed of becoming a professional, which I became at HSV. I dreamed of moving to France and playing for a Champions League club, which I achieved with Lille.
“And I dreamed of playing in the Premier League, which Everton made possible. It’s actually true that every step in my career is planned.
“I want to be a much better player. And my goal is to play for an international world club in three years. I also want to have qualified with Belgium for the 2026 World Cup in America in two years. I dream about that and I will do everything I can to make these dreams come true too.
“I have to and will answer this very professionally: I’m under contract with Everton – and I’ll leave everything else to the media. I’ll just do my best at the European Championships and then we’ll see.”
