Allergic girl’s mother ‘warned’ over milk in Costa hot chocolate

A Costa Coffee barista has claimed she told the mother of a girl who died from an allergic reaction to a hot chocolate that the drink contained cow’s milk.

East London coroner’s court was told that Urmi Akter, a barista at the chain, told Hannah Jacobs’s mother, Abimbola Duyile, that hot chocolate contained milk after Duyile told her about Hannah’s allergy.

Hannah, 13, from Barking in east London, had been allergic to dairy, fish and egg products since she was a toddler. She died hours after taking a sip of the drink on February 8, 2022.
